We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Senior School student, Lucia Z, who recently competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics in women's fencing. Representing Canada on the global stage, Lucia was a crucial member of the Canadian women’s foil team, playing a pivotal role in their remarkable journey through the competition. In one of the most thrilling moments of the tournament, Team Canada secured an impressive victory over host nation France in the quarterfinals, a feat that highlighted their skill, teamwork, and determination.

While Team Canada narrowly missed securing their second-ever Olympic medal in fencing, their performance in Paris was nothing short of extraordinary. The team’s display of poise and resilience throughout the competition has earned them well-deserved recognition, and Lucia's contributions were instrumental in bringing Team Canada to the brink of Olympic history. Competing against some of the best fencers in the world, Lucia's talent and composure under pressure truly shone, marking her as a rising star in the sport. Lucia’s fencing journey began long before her Olympic debut. At just 8 years old, she picked up a foil for the first time and immediately demonstrated a passion for the sport.

With years of dedication, hard work, and countless hours of training, Lucia steadily climbed the ranks in Canadian fencing. Her breakthrough on the international stage came in November 2022, when, at the age of 15, she made her debut at the prestigious FIE Junior World Cup. Competing against the top junior fencers from around the world, Lucia quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with.

Her remarkable progress from junior fencer to Olympian within just a few short years is a testament to Lucia's relentless commitment and love for fencing. Juggling her academic responsibilities alongside a rigorous training schedule, Lucia has proven that with determination and focus, anything is possible. We, as a school community, are beyond proud of Lucia's accomplishments and feel honoured to have witnessed her incredible rise in the sport. Her Olympic journey serves as an inspiration to all of us, reminding us of the power of perseverance and passion. We look forward with great anticipation to following Lucia's future endeavours, both in the world of fencing and beyond, as she continues to achieve greatness.

Congratulations once again, Lucia! Your hard work, resilience, and achievements have made us all proud, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!
