Earth Month is HERE! Let's talk about something cool and unique about our campus: we're sitting right on top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and guess what? We're the headwaters of the Rouge River! This isn't just a geography lesson; it's about our huge responsibility to the planet.
We're perched on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a geological wonder that filters water and shelters tons of wildlife. But the real kicker? The Rouge River starts here! It literally bubbles up from the ground just north of us. That little stream running through campus? That's the beginning of a river that flows all the way to Lake Ontario.
Think about that! What we do here impacts everything downstream. It's a major reminder that our actions matter.
Being the starting point of the Rouge River means we're the river's first protectors. Whatever happens here flows downstream. That's why environmental action is a big deal for us. We know that protecting the source means protecting the whole ecosystem.
We even built a boardwalk over the stream to create a perfect home for fish like Brown Trout and the endangered Redside Dace. The shade from the boardwalk keeps the water cold, which these fish love. It's all about caring for our environment!
