BAS (Hons), BEd
Accounting, Economics, Business and Civics Teacher
Kevin Chorowiec’s philosophy of teaching is based on an old Chinese proverb: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Engage me and I learn." Kevin’s mission is to create a classroom community where students develop self-confidence and the critical thinking skills needed to succeed as innovative global citizens meeting the challenges of a changing and complex society. As a teacher, he believes his role is not to explain the complexity of a topic, but rather to reveal its simplicity. Kevin specializes in teaching intermediate/senior division business and social science subjects, but is also qualified to teach intermediate math and junior courses. He is very passionate about continuing professional teacher development, staff training and the use of technology in the classroom. He holds four specialists in teaching, including: a Business Honours Specialist; a Social Science Honours Specialist, an Accounting Specialist; and an Integration of Technology Specialist.
Having taught at several schools prior to joining HTS, Kevin is experienced working with international ESL students and continuing-education adults. Albert Einstein once said that education is not the learning of many facts, but the training of the mind to think. This reflects Kevin’s thoughts regarding school experiences outside the classroom. In the past, he has enjoyed working with law students to prepare them for Mock Trial competitions and has acted as a mentor in the York University STARS Mentoring Program. At HTS, Kevin works with DECA to help students develop transferrable communication and critical thinking skills to help prepare them for their future. When not teaching, Kevin enjoys world travel, sports, camping and fishing. He enjoys learning about world cultures, religions and lost civilizations.
