Science Department Head
With a McMaster University degree in science and an interest in business, Tara Irani spent 15 years in the corporate world before deciding that she had missed her calling. Time spent volunteering in local schools convinced her that this was a profession in which she could make a real difference. She enrolled in Buffalo’s D’Youville College, and earned her Masters of Education. As a supply teacher in 2006, Tara fell in love with the energy and community spirit she sensed at HTS. She has been teaching Senior School science here ever since. A self-proclaimed lifelong learner, she embraces the opportunity to learn from her students, while engaging them in critical thinking and other 21st century skills. In 2012, Tara was appointed to the Head of the HTS Science Department. In 2016, she stepped down as Head of Science to fully focus on her craft of teaching. In 2017 she was asked to step back into the role as Acting Head of Science and realized how much she missed and enjoyed being an Academic Leader so she decided to stay on as the Head of Science ever since.
Tara began playing both singles and doubles tennis at a very competitive level in university. She continues to enjoy the sport, coaching at HTS and participating in a variety of leagues all year round.
