START Program

HTS is thrilled to announce the return of the START (Skills Targeting and Reinforcement for Transition) Program to support students with the complex shift from Lower to Middle School. This 2-week program focuses on continuing to build numeracy, literacy, and learning skills necessary for the transition from grade 5 to 6. Students will be given the task of designing a home based on a client's specifications. Through this  problem based learning opportunity we will explore geometric and algebraic principles, linking our understanding of mathematical concepts to the real world.

Furthermore, through a workshop based approach we will explore narrative and argumentative texts and work toward creating our own narrative text and arguments, resulting in a class anthology of our greatest writing pieces. These experiences will allow us to build independent and collaborative skills such as active listening, problem solving, prioritizing, planning, and organizing. We look forward to learning through investigation and fun!
