Mr Matthew Donkers

BSc (Hons), BEd

Science Teacher Spending his formative years working with children as a camp counsellor and a special needs support worker, Matthew knew from an early age that he wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from Western University with a Bachelor of Science, Honors Specialization Kinesiology, he obtained his Bachelor of Education at Brock University. He spent his first year teaching abroad in England, where he established a love of travelling that has motivated him ever since. Matthew has spent the last nine years working at Greenwood College School teaching math and sciences and has evolved his practice through their exemplary teacher development program. He has spent significant time working with his students on growth mindset, perseverance and grit, and he strives to implement an inquiry focused student-centred learning environment in his classrooms.

After a recent move to Stouffville, Matthew is excited about his transition to HTS, and looks forward to getting to know the community both inside and outside of the classroom. Apart from teaching, Matthew enjoys all things outdoors; from camping and canoe trips, to hiking and climbing mountains, the more intense the better. He is also an avid lover of sports including hockey, rugby, football and Aussie rules. Coaching is one of his favourite parts of the job, and he looks forward to coaching U-15 soccer and varsity hockey this year at HTS.
