Shauna L. wins the Canadian Junior Girls Championship!
We are overjoyed to announce that Grade 10 student Shauna L. has achieved an incredible milestone this summer by winning the prestigious 69th Canadian Junior Girls Championship. This victory is a testament to Shauna’s talent, dedication and countless hours of hard work.
“It feels great,” Shauna said after her win. “Winning this tournament is something I’ve always wanted, and it’s really great to be here. My family and I will probably go out and get some ice cream after this one.” Her words reflect the humility and joy she brings to the sport, even at such a high level of competition.
Shauna’s journey to becoming a champion began when she first picked up a golf club at the age of four. Now, at 15, she has spent more than a decade honing her skills and pursuing her passion for golf. Her early years saw her playing recreationally, but by the age of eight, she began competing in local tours. At 12, Shauna made her debut in provincial tournaments, where she quickly made a name for herself as a rising star.
Her growth as an athlete has been extraordinary, and her achievements reflect her relentless commitment to improvement. Shauna is one of the few students enrolled in our High Performance Athlete Program (HPAP), a unique initiative designed to support students competing at provincial, national, or international levels. Under the guidance of Mr. Marcus O’Neill, Head of Physical and Health Education, the program allows athletes like Shauna to balance their demanding training schedules with their academic responsibilities. This level of support has been instrumental in helping Shauna reach new heights in her golf career.
This year has been nothing short of phenomenal for Shauna. In addition to her Canadian Junior Girls Championship win, she earned the CDW Girls Junior All-Star Championship and her third consecutive victory in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit at the AJGA NW Arkansas Junior in the Fall. These accomplishments highlight her consistency, skill and ability to perform under pressure.
Off the course, Shauna remains a dedicated student and a positive role model for her peers. Her ability to juggle academics, training and competition speaks volumes about her discipline and time management. She is a shining example of what is possible when passion meets perseverance.
Shauna’s achievements have not only brought pride to our school community but have also inspired younger students who dream of excelling in their respective fields. Her journey is a reminder that hard work, determination and a strong support system can make dreams a reality.
As we celebrate Shauna’s remarkable accomplishments, we look forward to seeing where her talent and drive will take her next. Congratulations, Shauna, on all your successes! You’ve made your school and community incredibly proud. Keep aiming high, and remember, the best is yet to come!
