David Tuley was born in Oakland, California and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia. Academically, he has attained two degrees in Geography (BA - Mary Washington, MA - Kansas State). By trade, David worked as a landscaper and landscape designer throughout his university years and later became a nursery manager in Virginia and a garden centre owner in Kansas. David married a Canadian and then immigrated to Canada in 2002.
He and his wife have two boys – Samuel is in grade 10 at HTS, while Stefan is in his 2nd year of Environmental Engineering at the University of Guelph. By profession, David has been involved in community & economic development, including 10 years with the City of Oshawa, where he stimulated the development of a university campus, a hotel & conference centre, and a co-working centre, and 7 years with the Town of Stouffville, where he produced 79 editions of the community’s monthly magazine.
David has paused in career to return to school in the spring of 2025; he will be pursuing a Master of Conservation Leadership with the University of Guelph. By hobby, David enjoys hiking, camping and collecting native plant species (he is also in pursuit of the world’s best Cabernet Franc). David and Andrea plan to (eventually) retire in Collingwood where they maintain a modest second home.
